The special visit to the Necropolis beneath the Basilica, where the Tomb of Saint Peter is kept, is a concession that the Fabbrica di San Pietro authorizes from time to time according to an appropriate schedule.
The necessary attention to the conservation of the historical-archaeological site, where the original tomb of the Apostle Peter is kept, allows visits for about 250 visitors per day.
Visitors are advised that during the visit to the underground Necropolis, they may experience altered environmental conditions of temperature and humidity. Those with particular physical problems, which may worsen under these conditions, including claustrophobia, are advised not to take part in the visit.
Please note that, on the occasion of extraordinary events, the Visits Office reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or reschedule the visit.
